Tredegar Film Products has an ongoing commitment to Research and Development – through significant resources to lead industry innovation, insight and expertise.

Many film industry firsts can be traced to Tredegar engineers, including the extrusion of the first polyethylene film in the U.S., initially for the military during World War II and then commercially under the popular VisQueen® brand name, the introduction of the blown film coextrusion process, embossed film technology, heat-activated elastomers, vacuum apertured films, and stretch and breathable laminates.

Tredegar Research and Development engineers advanced the state of microporous breathable film technology and compression-rolled orientation (CRO) processes. In addition to developing technologies to produce reduced-gauge HMW-HDPE film for tissue and towel packaging, Tredegar was the first to use post consumer recycled resin in high-quality packaging films.

Our Richmond pilot facility and laboratory (new in 2005) supports our Research and Development efforts into new products. The analytical area of the lab enables us to perform day-to-day tests such as tensile strength, density testing, product aging, and strikethrough/rewet. State of the art technology is utilized to test product prototypes and solve product challenges. Beyond specific product research, the analytical lab also conducts investigatory work in support of our commitment to quality.
